Commissioner's Diwali message
Posted by Media Team 31 October 2024
Bula Vinaka, Namaste, As-salamu alaykum, and a very Good Morning to you all.
As the Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption (FICAC) family gathers to celebrate the joyous occasion of Diwali, a festival of lights, prosperity, and the triumph of good over evil today, let us reflect on the pervasive shadow of corruption that continues to plague our society.
While we celebrate Diwali, it is imperative to acknowledge the need to light the darker corners of our society, which are covered with corruption.
Corruption, a persistent and insidious threat, undermines the very foundations of our nation. It erodes trust, hinders development, and exacerbates inequality. It affects the resources meant for public welfare, depriving the most vulnerable of essential services. The consequences of corruption are far-reaching, affecting every aspect of our lives, from healthcare and education to infrastructure and governance.
In the spirit of Diwali, let us commit ourselves to the eradication of corruption. The FICAC family, Diwali, and especially Lord Rama conveys an important message to us: the Anti-Corruption Agency must fight for justice.
Just as Lord Rama embodies the principles of righteousness, as an anti-corruption agency, FICAC and every FICAC Officer is a champion of ethical conduct and fair play.
Lord Rama's strong determination to uphold truth and justice mirrors the resolute commitment of anti-corruption agencies to root out corruption, no matter the obstacles or challenges.
Lord Rama inspires us to follow his path of righteousness. Similarly, an effective anti-corruption agency sets an example for others to emulate by encouraging transparency, accountability, and ethical behavior.
Hanuman ji or also known as Bajrang Bali, a devotee of Lord Ramaa, uses his intelligence and resourcefulness to uncover the truth about Ravana's evil deeds. Similarly, our investigators dig deep into the muddy waters of corruption, determined to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The battle against corruption is relentless, a constant struggle between light and darkness. But let us draw inspiration from the firm spirit of Lord Ram and his devotee Hanuman ji, who, despite insurmountable odds, remained steadfast in their mission.
The epic battle between Lord Ram and Ravana symbolises a relentless fight against corruption. Legal proceedings, including investigations, trials, and judgements, are the weapons we use to combat corruption and restore justice.
Lord Rama's victory over Ravana signifies the triumph of good over evil. Similarly, a successful prosecution in a corruption case represents the victory of justice and the rule of law.
The fight against corruption is long and arduous, but it is a battle worth fighting. By working together, we can create a society where honesty, integrity, and fairness prevail.
By illuminating diyas on Diwali night takes away the darkness. In the same way, let us illuminate the path toward a corruption-free future, where every individual has the opportunity to thrive.
As we celebrate Diwali, let us illuminate our hearts with the lights of honesty and integrity. Let us pledge to be the change we wish to see in the world. Let us be the guardians of our nation's soul, protecting it from the insidious clutches of corruption.
May the blessings of Lord Rama and the divine grace of Hanuman guide us in our endeavors. Let us strive to create a society where justice prevails, honesty flourishes, and the light of truth shines brightly, just like the diyas we all light on the Diwali night to welcome Lord Rama, his wife Sita, and brother Lakshman from 14 years of exile.
With these words, I wish you all a very happy Diwali. Enjoy the sweets and variety of delicious savouries with your families and friends, and remember while you enjoy, don’t forget to take care of yourself and your loved ones, especially our children.
Happy Diwali to each and every one of you!
Wishing a wonderful Diwali to all of you!
