Let the Commission of Inquiry Do Its Job: FICAC Urges Public to Respect the Process
Posted by Media Team 18 December 2024
The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) would like to remind the public to allow the Commission of Inquiry (COI) to carry out its work as it conducts its enquiries into the process of the appointment of the Commissioner of FICAC. It is essential that the due process is respected and allowed to proceed without undue interference.
FICAC urges the public, including those in positions of authority, to refrain from trial by media, as this is not the appropriate forum for addressing such matters.
The FICAC Commissioner, Ms. Barbara Malimali, has chosen not to comment on the current situation, as she believes it would be undignified for her to do so.
FICAC would also like to reassure the public that it continues to operate as normal. Under the current leadership of Commissioner Ms. Malimali, FICAC is functioning more efficiently than ever before. The Commission remains fully committed to its mandate of combating corruption and upholding the rule of law, with no disruption to its ongoing work.
We respectfully ask the public to allow the COI to do its work without external pressures and to respect the due process in place.
