Former RFMF Finance Officer and wife remanded in custody

A couple who are facing corruption-related charges have been remanded in custody after the Suva Magistrates Court refused to accept their sureties.
Ledua Biuvuli Matai, a former employee of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) and his wife, Taucilagi Duri appeared before Magistrate Sufia Hamza yesterday.
Matai faces One (1) Count of Abuse of Office for Gain while Duri faces One (1) Count of Aiding and Abetting Abuse of Office.
It is alleged that between November 2019 and June 2022, whilst employed as Principal Accounts Officer in the RFMF,Matai failed to declare his personal interest in a business, named Ink Escape Supplies before adding the said business as an RFMF vendor and facilitating payments amounting to $467,616.40 to Ink Escape Supplies from the RFMF.
Duri is alleged to have aided and abetted her husband in committing the offence between November 2019 and June 2022.
Magistrate Hamza adjourned the matter to today to allow the defence to present two suitable sureties each for the two accused.
