Trial Dates Revised in Former FBC CEO and CFO Case

The matter involving former Fiji Broadcasting Corporation (FBC) Chief Executive Officer, Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, and former Chief Financial Officer, Vimlesh Sagar, was called before Resident Magistrate Charles Ratakele for pre-trial directions.
The Court was informed that the previously scheduled trial dates of 24 to 28 August 2026 required amendment, as 24 August 2026 is a public holiday.
Following discussions with counsel, the court rescheduled the trial to commence on 25 August and conclude on 31 August 2026.
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum is charged with one count of Abuse of Office for Gain. It is alleged that between 1 July 2017 and 31 January 2023, he initiated five legal proceedings on behalf of FBC without the knowledge or approval of the FBC Board of Directors.
He also faces an alternative charge of General Dishonesty - Causing a Loss. It is alleged that the legal proceedings were not in the interests of FBC and resulted in a loss of $138,813.37.
Mr Sagar is charged with one count of General Dishonesty - Causing a Loss. It is alleged that he approved payments totalling $15,075.88 to R Patel Lawyers without the approval of the FBC Board of Directors.
The matter has been adjourned to 31 July 2026 for a final pre-trial conference.
