The Lautoka High Court will deliver its sentence on Monday, 31 March, 2025, for Inosi Tauvoli, a former employee of the iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB), following his conviction on three (3) counts of Abuse of Office on Thursday 20 March 2025.
The matter was called before Justice Aruna Aluthge for sentencing hearing, where Counsel for the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC), Ms. Arieta Vaganalau, informed the Court, that given the seriousness of the offending, it warrants a custodial sentence which would serve as a deterrent to others.
Counsel for Mr. Tauvoli, Ms. Amele Tubuitamana of Niudamu Lawyers, submitted to Court to consider a non-custodial sentence for her client and highlighted Mr. Tauvoli’s role as the sole income earner for his family and that he also manages a minibus business.
Tauvoli was found guilty on Three (3) Counts of Abuse of Office after a week-long trial and he was a Senior Estate Officer of the TLTB when he committed the offences between 19 October 2018 and 18 January 2019.
Whilst employed at the TLTB, Mr. Tauvoli processed and approved four (4) land lease applications belonging to three (3) Chinese individuals, without following the relevant policies.
Tauvoli will be sentenced on 31 March 2025 at 2pm at the Lautoka High Court.
