Former RFMF Officer, Labasa Businessman Await Judgement
Posted by Media Team 13 March 2026
Former Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) officer Josese Vusoniceva and Labasa businessman Ajesh Sharma will await their fate after the Suva Magistrates Court ruled that they have a case to answer for corruption-related offences.
The two accused are charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) with one count each of Bribery.
It is alleged that between 1 January 2015 and 30 September 2015, Mr Vusoniceva, while employed by the RFMF as a Works Warrant Officer with the Engineers Unit, accepted advantages totalling $9,906 from Mr Sharma, who was the Manager of Sales and Company Secretary of Buildex Marketing Limited, in exchange for performing acts in his capacity as a public servant.
Mr Vusoniceva also faces an alternative first count of Accepting an Advantage, while Mr Sharma faces an alternative second count of Bribery of a Public Servant by a Person Having Dealings with a Public Body.
Resident Magistrate Jeremaia Savou stated that both direct and circumstantial evidence had been presented by the prosecution, and in the Court’s view, the evidence had not been discredited to such an extent that no reasonable tribunal would convict.
As such, Resident Magistrate Savou ruled that there is a case to answer for both accused but they chose to remain silent and not call any other witnesses for their case.
The court will deliver its judgement on the matter on 12 May 2026.
Mr Vusoniceva is represented by Etonia Moce, while Mr Sharma is represented by Jasveel Singh.
FICAC State Counsel Nimisha Shankar appeared for the prosecution.
