The Sigatoka Magistrates Court has sentenced former Post Master, Mr Paulo Ramasima, to two years and six months’ imprisonment for theft, alongside a concurrent two-year sentence for Falsification of Documents.
The sentence was delivered by Resident Magistrate Joseph Daurewa on 20 October 2026.
Mr Ramasima was convicted of one count of Theft and one count of Falsification of Documents following charges brought by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC).
The court heard that the falsification charge involved the falsification of a telegram form and a payment voucher amounting to $13,000.
In determining the sentence, the court considered the seriousness of the offences, the breach of trust associated with Mr Ramasima’s position as a Post Master, and the substantial amount of money involved.
The court noted that Mr Ramasima had abused his position of trust for personal gain and that no restitution had been made by the time of sentencing.
The court also considered mitigating factors, including his status as a first-time offender, previous good character, family circumstances and expressions of remorse.
However, the court determined that a non-custodial sentence was not appropriate given the scale of the offending and the level of culpability.
Mr Ramasima was sentenced to two years and six months’ imprisonment for theft and two years’ imprisonment for falsification of documents, with the sentences to run concurrently.
The court further ordered that he would not be eligible for parole for 20 months.
