Integrity & Accountability Essential to Fiji’s Future
Posted by Media Team 09 October 2026
The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting public resources, promoting accountability and strengthening a culture of integrity across Fiji during its Fiji Day celebrations today.
Delivering the Fiji Day address on behalf of the Acting Commissioner Ms Lavi Rokoika, Manager Operations and Quality Assurance, Mr Mosese Matanisiga, said the occasion provided an opportunity to reflect on the nation’s journey, honour the contributions of past generations and consider the Fiji future generations deserved.
Mr Matanisiga highlighted that corruption has real consequences for everyday life, depriving communities of essential resources, undermining fair opportunities and eroding public confidence in institutions.
He emphasised that FICAC’s anti-corruption mandate was closely linked to the wellbeing of the nation, through investigating and prosecuting corruption within its lawful mandate, strengthening preventive practices, promoting accountability and raising public awareness.
He also stressed the importance of carrying out these responsibilities independently, impartially and professionally, ensuring that complaints are carefully considered and investigations are conducted in accordance with the law.
Mr Matanisiga called on all Fijians to renew their commitment to integrity and recognise their shared responsibility in protecting the nation’s future.
The celebrations also featured a short quiz on Fiji’s history, providing officers with an opportunity to test their knowledge of the nation’s heritage since gaining independence from Great Britain on 10 October 1970.
Happy Fiji Day!
