Press Release
Kamikamica Case Adjourned to April
Posted by Media Team 29 January 2026
The matter involving Member of Parliament and former Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Manoa Kamikamica, was called before the Suva Magistrates Court today for an update on his Stay of Proceedings application currently before the High Court.
Hon. Kamikamica is charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) with one count of Perjury, contrary to Section 176(1) of the Crimes Act 2009.
Defence counsel Wylie Clarke informed the court that the Permanent Stay application is scheduled for hearing in the High Court from 19 to 20 March, and that a decision is anticipated thereafter. He further submitted that, as the matter is before the High Court, there is no need for the case to be called again in the Magistrates Court until after April.
FICAC State Counsel Josann Pene advised the court that the Stay application is a separate proceeding from the Magistrates Court matter. She noted that while the High Court application may have a direct bearing on the case, the matter must continue in accordance with procedure, including the taking of the accused’s plea, which remains outstanding.
Resident Magistrate Charles Ratakele directed that the matter be called again in April and that, should the status quo remain, the court will proceed to take the accused’s plea.
It is alleged that between 1 December 2024 and 31 March 2025 in Suva, Mr. Kamikamica knowingly made a false statement under oath by claiming that he had no involvement in the appointment of the FICAC Commissioner.
In the alternative, he is charged with one count of Giving False Information to a Public Servant, contrary to Section 201(a) of the Crimes Act 2009, for allegedly providing the same false information to the Commissioner of Inquiry.
The matter has been adjourned to 14 April for mention.
Bail has been extended for Mr. Kamikamica.
