An unemployed man who is facing a charge of impersonating a Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) officer has pleaded guilty in the Suva Magistrates Court today.
Aman Abishek Nambiar, 24, is charged with One (1) Count of Falsely Pretending to be an Officer, One Count of Obtaining a Financial Advantage by Deception and One Count of Breaching Bail Condition.
The accused pleaded guilty to all three charges on his own free will before Magistrate Pulekeria Low.
It is alleged that between 22 November 2024 and 1 December 2024, Nambiar falsely pretended to be a FICAC officer to the victim and in doing so, dishonestly obtained a financial advantage in the sum of $170.00 from the victim.
In doing so, Nambiar, reoffended and breached his bail conditions for a separate matter imposed by the Suva Magistrates Court.
The matter was called today for bail hearing and plea.
FICAC Junior State Counsel Immanuel Turaga emphasized the prosecution’s objection to bail, stating that the accused is unlikely to surrender to custody or appear in court and that it is in the public interest and protection of the community.
In response, the accused, Mr Nambiar stated that he has learnt his lesson ever since he has been remanded in custody last year.
Magistrate Low informed both parties that the bail ruling will be given in the next court hearing.
Nambiar has been remanded in custody and the matter has been adjourned to January 24 2025.
