Press Release
INVESTIGATIONS INTO THE FORMER CEO OF FIJI SUGAR CORPORATION IS CONTINUING
Posted by Media Team 25 January 2024
The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) would like to advise that the investigations into the case against the former Chief Executive Officer of the Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC), Mr Abdul Khan is continuing.
FICAC wishes to reiterate that the ongoing investigations against the former FSC CEO, Abdul Khan was consequent to an intelligence report received by FICAC from the Fiji Intelligence Unit and not from a complaint made by FSC.
As it is an ongoing investigation, divulging any finer details of the case may jeopardize the outcome of the investigation. Therefore, in the best interest and to protect the integrity of the investigation, the Commission will refrain from making any remarks publicly on the case until the conclusion of the case.
However, we have recently received a complaint by the Ministry of Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry pertaining to an alleged abuse of office by the FSC Board in relation to the Tropical Cyclone (TC) Winston Insurance Claim in 2016. This is pending legal assessment and once it is endorsed for investigation, our team of investigators will conduct its investigation before further decisions are made, depending on the findings of the investigators.
Furthermore, while the Commission makes every effort to complete all cases within a suitable timeframe, it is important to note that some cases are complex in nature and therefore require a longer timeframe to obtain, review and analyze large volumes of documents as well as locating witnesses to verify facts surrounding the allegations made.
