An employee of the Fiji Electricity Authority (FEA) appeared at the Suva Magistrates Court today for charges laid by FICAC relating to two (2) counts of receiving a benefit.

It is alleged that in August and December of 2011, Bimal Rajan whilst being a Public Official employed at FEA as a stores person without lawful authority or reasonable excuse received a benefit totalling FJ$1100 from one Ajeeth Shankar, a Director of Import House Limited.

Rajan was released on a $3000 bail on the conditions that he surrenders his travel documents, does not re-offend, and does not interfere with prosecution witnesses.

FICAC has been receiving a lot of cases relating to bribery, which again topped the list of corruption related complaints received so far in 2013. In light of this, the Commission is appealing to public officials and those employed in government entities that as an individual, once you say “YES” to corruption, you risk prison life.

FICAC can help you put in place policies, systems and controls to prevent bribery and minimize the risk of corruption happening in your organization.

The law may be black and white but we understand that from time to time organizations need help navigating the grey areas. We can advise and guide you.
