The FICAC case against a Road Safety Officer with the Land Transport Authority was set for trial at the Nadi Magistrate Court.

Aniz Ahmed, a Road Safety Officer with LTA was charged with one count of Bribery and an alternative count of Abuse of Office.

It is alleged that on or about 28 March 2012; Ahmed without lawful authority or reasonable excuse solicited and accepted an advantage of $28.00 from one Ajay Nand to abstain from performing his duty.

Prosecution was prepared for the trial, however, the trial was vacated in view of a letter sent by a court clerk to the defence counsel [Mr. Iqbal Khan] informing that the hearing will not take place. The court learnt that the letter has been sent to the defence lawyer without the permission of senior court officer and the Magistrate. The prosecution said that such letter was never copied to the prosecution and they were taken by surprise. The learned magistrate informed the parties that he has directed an inquiry to be held in respect of the court clerk who issued the letter. The matter was adjourned to 4th October to fix a hearing date
