A Military Officer on secondment to the Department of Immigration was charged by FICAC today on 2 counts of Bribery contrary to Section 3 of the Prevention of Bribery Promulgation No. 12 of 2007.
It is alleged that on 28 June, 2013 at Suva, Jone Ratunidawasamu Senibici, accepted an advantage of $100 and a Babu silver and gold plated wrist watch from one Yong Pan.
Senibici appeared before Magistrate Somaratne in the Suva Magistrates Court this afternoon and has been released on bail where he has been ordered to:
Reside at the address he gave until his case is finally disposed off
Not interfere with prosecution witnesses connected with this case; and
Surrender his passport and travel documents.
Senibici will pay $500 to the Court if he fails to comply with his bail conditions.
In the meantime, FICAC is reminding civil servants to refrain from accepting financial advantages for the work they are suppose to do as this is against the law. It constitutes Bribery, which under the Prevention of Bribery Promulgation can land a person in prison for up to 3 years depending on the seriousness of the bribery offence committed and its circumstances.
Senibici's case has been adjourned to 21 October, 2013 for mention of plea to be taken.
