At the conclusion of FICAC's three-day National Annual Seminar on Public Sector Accountability and Integrity in Project Implementation and Procurement, a consensus was reached on the communique that was drafted, moved and adopted by the seminar participants. This communique will be sent to all the Permanent Secretaries for their necessary actions.

The communique incorporated all recommendations and points of discussions generated during the seminar which is hoped to improve administrative efficiency in the public sector.

Stakeholders to the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) recognized the importance of promoting and reinforcing integrity, accountability and honesty as critical to the proper management of public affairs and public properties.

They also acknowledged the continuing efforts by FICAC in raising awareness and commended the Commission for organizing this 3 day seminar to critically analyse the status of implementation of Article 9 of UNCAC which deals with procurement and management of public finances.

FICAC now is at the preliminary stages of planning another seminar that will see the Permanent Secretaries of key stakeholder Ministries and public entities including government commercial companies. It is envisaged that this seminar will draw the commitment of these PS's to the communique.

Furthermore that the PS's delegate a representative of their organization to foresee the monitoring of the proposed actions under Article 9 of UNCAC. Collectively these representatives will make up the working committee who will provide an annual progress report on the implementation of these policies, which would then be utilized for the periodic reporting of the implementation of UNCAC.
