The Suva Magistrates Court has granted a Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption application to have former Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase’s cases transferred to the High Court.

In a ruling delivered today Magistrate Amani Rokotinaviti granted the application under Section 220 of the Criminal Procedure Code (Amendment) Act No. 13 of 2003.

FICAC prosecutor Paul Madigan on December 8, 2008 made an application to have the cases transferred and after carefully considering the submission by defence counsel and the response by FICAC both cases have been transferred accordingly.

The matter has been adjourned to March 5 for mention in the High Court.
