The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption has for the first time charged an individual for Corruption Transaction with an Agent under its Prevention of Bribery Promulgation.

Last week FICAC charged Ivan Singh with two counts of Corrupt Transaction with an Agent, alleging Ivan on two separate occasions, November 1, 2007 and November 27, 2007 whilst being an accountant for Ba Provincial Holdings Company Limited accepted the total sum of $30,000 from one Rakesh Prasad of Woodwork Fantastic Furniture, a company under contract to BPHCL for maintenance work, in return for not disturbing that contract between BPCHL and Woodwork Fantastic Furniture.

In a separate case, FICAC charged NLTB official Seremaia Vueti with four counts of Misconduct in Public Office.

And a former NLTB employee Jacoro Kenatale was also charged with two counts of Misconduct in Public Office.

FICAC alleges that Seremaia on four separate occasions being the Senior Estate Officer for NLTB intentionally misconducted himself without reasonable excuse in approving advances totalling $6707.16 to Mataqali Tilivasewa without complying with the NLTB standard procedures.

FICAC also alleges that Jacoro on two separate occasions being the Regional Accountant North West for NLTB intentionally misconducted himself without reasonable excuse in approving advances totalling $1517.90 to Mataqali Tilivasewa without complying with the NLTB normal standard procedures.

The trio appeared before Magistrate John Rabuku in the Ba Magistrates Court last Friday where Ivan pleaded not guilty to the charges while Seremaia and Jacoro had their pleas deferred.

The cases have been deferred to 03 April 2009 in the Lautoka Magistrates Court.
