Former Divisional Forestry Officer pleads guilty

Called in the Labasa Magistrates Court yesterday morning was the FICAC case against Mr. Noa Vakacegu.

Mr. Vakacegu who represented himself, pleaded guilty to the charges.

The former Divisional Forestry Officer Northern is charged with five counts of abuse of office.

FICAC was represented by Legal Officer Henrietta Matakitoga before Magistrate Tuilevuka.

Between September and November 2008, Mr Vakacegu had approved through request letter from Sam Civil Service to delay payment of outstanding royalties owed to Mataqali Tibitibi, Mataqali Vitina and the Government of Fiji.

He did this without the authority of the Conservator of Forest, thereby causing prejudice to the rights of the said Mataqalis and Government of Fiji

Sam’s Civil Service is a private logging company.

The matter has been adjourned to 16th December 2008 for Mitigation and Sentencing.
