Clerical Officer of the Ministry of Education Charged for Possession of Property Suspected of Being Proceeds of Crime

A Clerical Officer of the Ministry of Education was produced at the Anti-Corruption Court this afternoon, 12 November 2021 for possession of property suspected of being proceeds of crime.


The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption has charged Shayal Rachna Prasad with one (1) count of being in possession of property suspected of being proceeds of crime.


It is alleged that between 04 April 2017 and 25 June 2020 in the Central Division, Prasad received and was in possession of property that could reasonably be suspected of having been derived or realised directly or indirectly from proceeds of crime, from one Rahul Ravikash Kumar, namely a York Treadmill, a Singer Sewing Machine, a Pulsar Watch, a S10 Plus Samsung Mobile Phone and a Toyota Aqua vehicle with the registration number “NAINA7”.


FICAC Senior State Counsel Laite Bokini-Ratu informed the Court that the first phase of disclosures has been served.


Magistrate Kiran granted bail for Prasad of $1,000 non cash and she was ordered not to change her residential address without the prior approval from the Court.


Shayal Prasad was also ordered not to interfere with prosecution witnesses, not to re-offend whilst on bail, surrender all travel documents and not to apply for any new travel documents until the conclusion of the case.


Shayal Prasad was also ordered to report to the FICAC Office on the last Friday of every month between 8am to 4pm.


A stop departure order has been issued against Shayal Prasad.


The matter has been adjourned to 22 December 2021 for the second phase disclosures to be served.
