Senior Technical Officer for the Ministry of Housing & Community Development Charged in the Anti-Corruption Court

A Senior Technical Officer at the Rural Unit for the Ministry of Housing & Community Development was produced at the Anti Corruption Court this afternoon 05 November 2021 on corruption related charges.

The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) charged Joji Waqamailau with one (1) count of Soliciting And Accepting An Advantage.

It is alleged that on or about 30 September 2021 Waqamailau solicited and accepted an advantage of $100.00 from a private individual.

FICAC State Counsel Lanieta More informed the Court that the first phase disclosures were served.

Magistrate Jeremaia Savou granted bail for Waqamailau of $500 non cash and ordered the accused no to re-offend whilst on bail.

Joji Waqamailau was also ordered to surrender all travel documents, not to change his residential address without prior approval from the Court and not to approach or interfere with witnesses.

A stop departure order has also been issued against Joji Waqamailau.

The matter has been adjourned to 19 November 2021 for the second phase of disclosures to be served.
