BUSINESSMAN FRONTS COURT ON CHARGES IN RELATION TO INTERFERENCE WITH WITNESSES

Businessman Surend Kumar has been charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) with one count of attempt to interfere with witnesses. It is alleged that the accused attempted to obstruct the due course of justice by dissuading and intimidating prosecution witnesses of the FICAC from providing evidence pertaining to an ongoing investigation.


Surend Kumar appeared before the Anti – Corruption Division of the Magistrates Court in Ba was granted bail on strict conditions. Surend Kumar is to report to the nearest police station every fortnight on Fridays with effect from 02 April 2021 between 6am – 6pm.


Surend Kumar was also ordered to surrender all travel documents, must reside at his residential address, not to leave the jurisdiction of Fiji unless leave is granted by the Court and not to re-offend whilst on bail.


The matter is adjourned to 07 May 2021 for prosecution to serve second phase disclosures to the accused.
