Individuals Charged in Anti-Corruption Court

The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) produced two (2) cases against two (2) individuals respectively in the Anti-Corruption Court divisions in Suva and Ba today.

Company Director Shalendra Kumar was produced and remanded for allegedly breaching bail conditions.

He was initially charged in 2013 alongside former employees of the then Public Works Department (PWD) with a count of Obtaining a Financial Advantage of over $30,000.00 FJD.

Since then he has been additionally charged with two (2) counts of Attempting to Pervert the Course of Justice and today with one (1) count of Breach of Bail Conditions.

He is alleged to have interfered with a prosecution witness earlier this month.

FICAC Senior State Counsel Sera Fatafehi served the full set of disclosures today with Kumar pleading not guilty to the charge.

Resident Magistrate Jeremaia Savou ordered that the Accused be remanded.

The matter was adjourned to 5 March 2021.

In the second case, former FICAC Investigator Mohammed Iqbal was charged with one (1) count of Divulging Confidential Information.

He is alleged to have disclosed information connected to an investigation by FICAC to an individual earlier this month.

FICAC Senior State Counsel Sam Savumiramira informed the Court that full phase disclosures was served today.

The matter was adjourned to 30 April 2021.
