TLTB Senior Estate Officer, Legal Officer and Businessman Charged

Employees of the iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB) and a businessman were produced in the Labasa Magistrates Court today on allegations of bribery.

TLTB Senior Estate Officer Nemani Tamani was charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) with four (4) counts of Bribery under the Prevention of Bribery Act.

He is alleged to have asked for $16,000.00 FJD and accepted $16,500.00 FJD as bribes from his co-accused on two (2) occasions between October and November 2019, whilst serving as the Acting Regional Manager North for TLTB.

Similarly, TLTB Legal Officer Kelepi Ratule was also charged with four (4) counts of Bribery for allegedly asking for advantages amounting to $3,200.00 FJD and accepting $2,850.00 FJD in bribes between November 2019 and January 2020.

Businessman Varun Anand faces four (4) counts of Bribery for offering these advantages to the public servants in order to influence the performance of their duties in their capacity as public servants.

FICAC Senior State Counsel Sam Savumiramira informed the Court that first phase disclosures was served.

The trio were released on bail and instructed not to interfere with Prosecution witnesses, to surrender their travel documents and to report to the FICAC office in Labasa once a month.

The matter was adjourned to 15 February 2021.
