Public Official Charged for Receiving Plane Tickets

A former Senior Technical Assistant and a Manager with Buildex Marketing Limited were produced in the Suva Magistrates Court today on allegations of bribery.


The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) charged Mr Aliki Bilitaki Tuimakutu with one (1) count of Receiving a Corrupt Benefit.


It is alleged that while serving with the Rural Housing Unit at the Commissioner Northern Division Office, he received return air tickets for his wife and himself with cash benefits worth $1,238.50 FJD between January and November 2014 from his co-Accused.


FICAC also charged Mr Ajesh Kumar Sharma with one (1) count of Giving Corrupt Benefits to Public Officials.


The former Manager Sales and Company Secretary for Buildex Marketing Limited is alleged to have offered the return air tickets and cash benefits in order to influence Mr Tuimakutu’s official duties as a public official.


FICAC State Counsel Ms Sera Fatafehi informed the court that first phase disclosures were served.


Chief Magistrate Mr Usaia Ratuvili released the duo on bail with strict conditions.


The matter is adjourned to 17 August 2020.
