Former LTA Manager and Current Customer Service Officer Charged

A former employee and a current employee of the Land Transport Authority (LTA) were produced in the Nasinu Magistrates Court today for corruption related offences.


The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) charged Ms Adi Vakacegu Ramanakiwai Veronika Malani (1st Accused) and Ms Arieta Likuivalu (2nd Accused) with two (2) counts each of Obtaining Financial Advantage and General Dishonesty – Causing a Loss.


It is alleged that while employed as the Manager Road Safety and Education at LTA, the 1st Accused approved Accountable Advance claims made under the names of two (2) other employees of LTA and as a result, obtained financial advantages of FJD $1925.00 for herself and FJD $250.00 for the 2nd Accused in October 2017.


Her actions are further alleged to have caused a total loss of FJD $2,240.00 to LTA.


It is alleged that while employed as a Customer Service Officer at LTA, the 2nd Accused prepared and submitted Accountable Advance claims under the names of two other employees of LTA and as a result, obtained financial advantages of FJD $250.00 for herself and FJD $1925.00 for the 1st Accused in October 2017.


The actions of the 2nd Accused are also alleged to have caused a total loss of FJD $2,240.00 to LTA.


FICAC State Counsel Mr Adrian Sharma informed the Court that first phase disclosures have been served to both Accused persons.


Resident Magistrate Ms Sufia Hamza released the Accused persons on bail with a cash bail of FJD $2000.00, which is to be paid by 4pm today.


Furthermore, she instructed them not to re-offend, to surrender their travel documents and also issued a Stop Departure Order accordingly.


The matter was adjourned to 4 November 2020.
