A former Permit Officer with the Fiji Immigration Department appeared in the Suva Magistrate Court today, charged with corruption related offences.

Ms Alberta Sautu was charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) with one (1) count of Bribery.

She is charged alongside Ms Yuen Yei Ha who also faces a count of Bribery.

It is alleged that Ms Sautu accepted an advantage of $500.00 FJD from Ms Yuen on 12 January 2019 on account of her performing an act in her capacity as a public servant.

FICAC State Counsel Mr Darren Hickes informed the Court that there was no objection to bail but requested that strict bail conditions be imposed on the ladies.

He also confirmed that first phase disclosures were served to them.

Resident Magistrate Mr Asanga Bodaragama granted the duo bail and instructed them to surrender all travel documents, not to re-offend and not to interfere with prosecution witnesses.

A Stop Departure Order was also issued.

The matter was adjourned to 16 March 2020.
