Former LTA Customer Service Officer Charged

A former Customer Service Officer with the Land Transport Authority (LTA) was produced in the Lautoka Magistrates Court today on four (4) different cases of alleged corruption.


In the first case, the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) charged Mr Setareki Vakayadra with two (2) counts of Bribery.


It is alleged that he asked for an advantage of $800.00 FJD from an individual and is further alleged to have accepted $400.00 FJD from the same person in March 2017.


For the second case, he is also charged with two (2) counts of Bribery where he is alleged to have asked for and accepted $200.00 from an individual in April 2017.


In the third case, he faces one (1) count each of Forgery and Using Forged Document from July to August 2017.


He is alleged to have created a false document in the form of a letter using the LTA letterhead to be submitted to the Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) as a supporting letter for his Unemployment Application to obtain $365.00 FJD from them.


In the fourth case, Mr Vakayadra is charged with one (1) count of General Dishonesty – Obtaining a Gain for allegedly stealing revenue collected from Traffic Infringements Penalty and Driver License renewal to LTA amounting to $661.15 FJD in October 2017.


FICAC State Counsel Ms Arieta Vaganalau appeared for Prosecution and requested that strict bail conditions be imposed on the Accused.


Resident Magistrate Mr Sekonaia Vodokisolomone issued a Stop Departure Order and instructed the Accused to surrender all travel documents.


Bail for the Accused is pending the provision of two (2) suitable sureties and he has until 4pm today to provide them or he will be remanded in custody.


All four (4) matters have been adjourned to 4 February 2020.
