Suspended Market Manager Charged

The suspended Labasa Town Council Market Manager was produced in the Labasa Magistrates Court today for alleged corrupt practice.


Mr Shalendra Chand was charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) with one (1) count of Obtaining a Financial Advantage.


It is alleged that he directed the Assistant Market Manager to give him $100.00 FJD from the Labasa Town Council Safe which were funds collected from market vendors, for his personal use.


FICAC State Counsel Mr Joseph Work informed the Court that first phase disclosures was served.


Resident Magistrate Mr Cama Tuberi released the Accused on bail and instructed him not to re-offend, interfere with witnesses and change his address.


The matter was adjourned to 6 January 2020.
