A former officer from the Registrar of Titles and a law clerk appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court today on corruption related offences.

The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) charged Mr Ravikashwar Chand with one (1) count of Falsification of Documents for allegedly falsifying the transfer of Title lease number.

Charged alongside him was Mr Hemant Kumar who faces one (1) count each of Giving Information Derived from False Document, Obtaining a Financial Advantage and Fraudulently Falsification of Accounts.

He is alleged to have given false information from a false document to an individual regarding the title and obtained $2,750 FJD and further falsified the receipts for his former law firm by altering the entries.

FICAC Senior State Counsel Mr Sam Savumiramira informed the Court that first phase disclosures were served and requested strict bail conditions.

Resident Magistrate Mr Josefa Daurewa granted the duo bail and instructed them not to reoffend, change their place of residence, interfere with prosecution witnesses and that they had to report to the FICAC Suva Office on the last Friday of every month.

A Stop Departure Order was also imposed with their travel documents surrendered to court.

The matter was adjourned to 3 February 2020.
