Former Revenue Collector with the Rakiraki Magistrates Court Ms Saleshni Lata received a sentence of 15 months in the Lautoka Magistrates Court last Friday.

She was charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) in December 2017 with one (1) count each of Obtaining a Gain and Falsification of Documents.

She had initially denied the charges but pleaded guilty to the charges in August 2019 and admitted to the Summary of Facts.

Whilst being employed as Revenue Collector at the Rakiraki Magistrates Court, she falsified the Judicial Department Trust Fund receipts and the Maintenance Payment card and as a result, obtained the sum of $100.00 in April 2017.

In delivering the sentence, Resident Magistrate Mr Sekonaia Vodokisolomone said that Ms Lata should be provided with another opportunity to reform, taking into consideration that the sum taken was restored.

Her sentence is suspended for two (2) years.
