A former employee of the Department of Town and Country Planning appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court today charged with corruption related offences.
The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) charged Ms Courtney Suka Rakokoti with two (2) counts of Obtaining a Financial Advantage and one (1) count of Causing a Loss under the Crimes Act of 2009.
She is alleged to have received payments from customers for various fees and services and failed to deposit it on a daily basis, thus, obtaining $14,723.90 FJD from her former employers.
Similarly, the Accused allegedly altered Receipt Numbers and obtained $560.05 FJD.
For the third count, she is alleged to have caused a loss of $13,597.10 FJD to the Department of Town and Country Planning by failing to deposit the revenue collected from customers through cheque payments.
FICAC State Counsel Joseph Work informed the Court that first phase disclosures was served and that there was no objection to bail but requested that strict bail conditions be imposed.
Resident Magistrate Ms Seini Puamau released the accused on bail, issued a Stop Departure Order and instructed her not to re-offend and to surrender all travel documents.
The matter was adjourned to 19 August 2019.
