Former FRA Employee and Engineering Company Executives Charged

A former employee of Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) and executives from Hi-Tech Engineering Ltd appeared in the Nasinu Magistrates Court today charged with corruption related offences.


The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) charged Mr Roneet Prakash with one (1) count of Bribery for allegedly accepting a sink and vanity bench from an engineering company FRA was dealing with, whilst serving as their Structural Design Engineer.


Similarly, FICAC charged Hi-Tech Engineering Works Ltd Director, Mr Sanji Lal and Accountant Mr Avinesh Sami with one (1) count of Bribery of Public Servants by Persons Having Dealing with Public Bodies for offering the above mentioned advantage to the first Accused.


Mr Lal also faces an additional charge of Fabricating Evidence for allegedly intending to mislead the Court by fabricating a Hi-Tech Engineering Works Ltd payment voucher written out to Dynamic Joinery last June.


FICAC State Counsel Ms Sanjana Datt informed the Court that first phase disclosures was served to all three individuals.


Resident Magistrate Mr. Charles Ratakele granted the trio bail and issued a Stop Departure Order accordingly.


The matter was adjourned to 1 October 2019.
