Man Changes Plea, Contests Facts

A man who had earlier admitted to misusing funds under the Help for Homes initiative changed his plea to Not Guilty in the Suva Magistrates Court today.


Mr. Atunaisa Ravatu was charged with one (1) count of General Dishonesty – Causing a Loss and two (2) counts of General Dishonesty – Obtaining a Gain by the Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption (FICAC) in February 2018.


The Accused disputed some facts contained in the summary of facts and wished to change his earlier guilty plea to a plea of Not Guilty.


It was alleged that he dishonestly causing a loss to the government by misappropriating MPAISA cards which belonged to villagers of Vuna District in Taveuni amounting to FJD $22,231.22 in 2016.


He also allegedly obtained FJD $1,600.00 in Suva and FJD $2,000.00 in Sigatoka from the Cash Back promotion given by Vinod Patel Company Limited.


The matter was adjourned to 2 August 2019.
