A former Court Officer at the Sigatoka Magistrates Court was charged with corruption related offences in his former workplace today.

The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) charged Mr. Isoa Matanitobua with five (5) counts of False Information to Public Servant and five (5) counts of General Dishonesty – Causing a Loss amounting to $1,616.50 FJD between January 2015 and September 2016.

He is alleged to have provided the Land Transport Authority (LTA) with false information relating to the records of the payment of Traffic Infringement Notice fines from five (5) individuals.

Furthermore, he allegedly received payments from these individuals and did not issue them receipts nor did he make a record of the payments made.

FICAC State Counsel Mr. Sam Savumiramira appeared for Prosecution and informed the court that first phase disclosures were served.

Moreover, he stated that there were no objections to bail, as long as strict bail conditions were imposed on the Accused.

Resident Magistrate Mr. Jeremaia Savou released the Accused on bail with a bail bond of $1000.00 FJD with one (1) surety, instructed him to report to the FICAC Suva office once a month and imposed a travel ban.

The matter was adjourned to 5 July 2019 in the Suva Magistrates Court before the Chief Magistrate.
