Suspended Director Denies Corruption Charges

The suspended Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) Director pleaded not guilty to all counts of corruption-related offences in the Suva Magistrates Court today.

Mr. Shameem Khan was charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) with one (1) count each of Abuse of Office and General Dishonesty – Causing a Loss in the amount of $4,118,994.08 FJD.

FICAC Senior Counsel Mr. Rashmi Aslam informed the Court of Prosecution’s intention to formally file a motion and affidavit to have the case transferred to the High Court.

Defence counsel Mr. Devanesh Sharma responded saying that they would oppose the application and that there were no voir dire issues.

Resident Magistrate Ms. Deepika Prakash adjourned the matter to 18 April 2019.
