WAF Employees Charged for Selling Water Tanks under Free Government Initiative

Two (2) employees of the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) appeared in the Nadi Magistrates Court today for obtaining money by selling water tanks provided by the government under the Rain Water Harvest Tank (RWHT) Project.


The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) charged Mr. Varayame Drelo with one (1) count of Obtaining a Financial Advantage while Mr. Sairusi Nageti was charged with two (2) counts of Obtaining a Financial Advantage.


For the first count, it is alleged that between July and October 2018 in Nadi, Mr. Sairusi Nageti and Mr. Varayame Drelo sold water tanks that were given by the government under the RWHT Project and obtained $5,040.00.


For the second count, it is alleged that between July and October 2018 in Nadi, Mr. Sairusi Nageti sold water tanks that were given by the government under the RWHT Project and obtained $1,940.00.


FICAC State Counsel Mr. Adrian Sharma informed the Court that first phase disclosures were served to the Accused persons.


Resident Magistrate Mr. Peni Dalituicama released the two (2) Accused on bail.


The Accused persons were told to report to the Lautoka Police Station every Saturday between 9am and 12pm. A stop departure was also issued against both Accused and they were told not to interfere with Prosecution witnesses.


The matter was adjourned to 24 January 2019 for Plea.
