A former bank officer appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court today charged with a corruption-related offence.
The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) charged Mr. Joji Cavalevu with one (1) count of Obtaining Financial Advantage.
It is alleged that the Accused, while employed at the Fiji Development Bank (FDB) as the Relationship and Sales Officer acquired $4,000 FJD while facilitating a loan for an applicant.
He allegedly misrepresented the terms and conditions of giving loans by telling the loan applicant that certain fees had to be paid back to the bank upon receiving the loan – which was not true.
FICAC State Counsel Ms. Sera Fatafehi informed the court that first phase disclosures were served and that there were no objections to bail as long as strict bail conditions were imposed.
Resident Magistrate Mr. Liyanage Wickramasekara granted bail, imposed a travel ban and instructed the Accused to surrender all travel documents, report to the FICAC Suva office every Friday, to provide two (2) sureties and not to interfere with witnesses or the complainant.
The matter was adjourned to 27 February 2019.
