A former employee of the iTaukei Affairs Board appeared in the Labasa Magistrates Court today on corruption-related offences.
The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) charged Mr. Taniela Jerema with one (1) count each of “Obtaining a Financial Advantage” and “Causing a Loss” for offences allegedly committed between September 2016 and March 2017.
It is alleged that he unlawfully acquired $9,280.00 when he was employed as the Assistant Provincial Treasurer for the Bua Provincial Council.
The amount was initially received as payments made by individuals to the various accounts held by the Council, and instead of depositing it accordingly, Mr. Jerema allegedly kept it for himself.
FICAC State Counsel Ms. Josanne Pene informed the court that first phase disclosures were served.
Resident Magistrate Mr. Timoci Qalinauci granted bail with a bail bond of $500.00FJD with the Accused instructed to report to the FICAC Suva Office every Monday and Friday, not to interfere with prosecution witnesses and to surrender all travel documents.
A Stop Departure Order was issued accordingly.
The matter was adjourned to 8 October 2018.
