Case Against the Accountant of Ba Provincial Holdings Limited

Investigation into an allegation that the former Accountant for Ba Provincial Holdings Limited accepted the sum of $30,000 from the Contractor that was contracted to provide maintenance work for the Ba Provincial Holdings building.

The Officer was charged for Corrupt Transaction with an Agent and appeared before the Lautoka Magistrates Court on 20 March 2009.

His trial began on 8th June 2010 with the court hearing that Ivan Thakur Singh had threatened the owner of Wood Work Fantastic Furniture owner Rakesh Prasad in October 2007 that he would lose a contract awarded to him if he did not pay him $30,000.00.

On 19th November 2010, Magistrate Ragajeeva Wimalsena acquitted the Ivan Thakur Singh of one count of Demanding with Menance with Intent to Steal. Magistrate Wimalsena said that there was doubt as to the validity of his statement seeing as the offence took place after the signing of the contract.
