The case against a senior Police Officer was adjourned by the Nadi Magistrates Court today for mitigation submissions.

Mr. Pita Keni appeared before Magistrate Mr. Peni Dalituimua.

The matter was called today and listed for sentencing however; Magistrate noted that Mitigation submissions by the Defense Counsel had not been filed in Court.

Magistrate then informed the Accused that he needs to inform his counsel of the submissions as his Counsel was not present in Court.

Mr. Pita Keni was charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) for one count of “Failure to Render Assistance” and for one count of “Resisting or Obstructing Officers”.

Nadi Magistrate, Mr. Mohammed Azhar in December 2017 found Keni Guilty for one count of “Failure to Render” and convicted him accordingly. Keni was found Not Guilty for the second count.

Keni, while being a public servant employed by the Fiji Police Force without reasonable excuse failed to render assistance to FICAC by refusing to provide information requested that was relevant to a bribery case against a former Acting Inspector of the Fiji Police Force, Mr. Timoci Naulu.

Matter has been adjourned to 3 April 2018 to check on mitigation submissions by Defense.
