Woman Charged for Obtaining Financial Advantage

A woman was produced at the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday charged with corruption related offences.

The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) charged Ms. Melaia Senimolau with sixteen (16) counts of obtaining a financial advantage.

The offences occurred between March 2015 and January 2017, at the time of the offence Senimolau was employed as an Estate Officer of the Fiji Public Trustee Corporation (FPTC). She is currently not employed by the FPTC.

It is alleged that on sixteen (16) separate occasions, Senilomau provided false FPTC Receipts and false FPTC Bill of Cost’s as receipts to obtain a financial advantage in the sum of FJD $18,929.50.

She appeared before Chief Magistrate, Mr. Usaia Ratuvili.

FICAC Counsel, Ms. Jessie Lagonilakeba appeared for Prosecution and informed Court that the first phase disclosures have been served to the Accused.

Senimolau was released on bail after two sureties were produced in Court and strict bail conditions were imposed. A stop departure was issued accordingly.

The matter has been adjourned to 4 April 2018 for Plea.
