Superintendent of Police Convicted

A Superintendent of Police was convicted by the Nadi Magistrates Court this morning.

Mr. Pita Keni was charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption for one count of “Failure to Render Assistance” and for one count of “Resisting or Obstructing Officers”.

Nadi Magistrate, Mr. Mohammed Azhar, found Keni Guilty for one count of “Failure to Render” and convicted him accordingly. Keni was found Not Guilty for the second count.

Keni, while being a public servant employed by the Fiji Police Force without reasonable excuse failed to render assistance to FICAC by refusing to provide information requested that was relevant to a bribery case against a former Acting Inspector of the Fiji Police Force, Mr. Timoci Naulu.

FICAC Counsel, Mr. Rashmi Aslam, appeared for Prosecution.

Keni was represented by Defense Counsel, Mr. Aman Ravindra Singh.

Matter has been adjourned to 22 January 2018 to check on sentencing submissions.
