Former Judiciary Officers Appear in Court on Corruption Charges

Two former Judiciary Officers appeared at the Ba Magistrates Court today charged separately with corruption related offences.


The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) charged Ms. Saleshni Lata and Mr. Yogendran who appeared before Magistrate Mr. Samuela Qica.


Mr. Adrian Sharma and Mr. Sam Savumiramira appeared for Prosecution for both the cases while Mr. Semi Jitoko appeared for the Accused persons. Mr. Sharma informed Court that first phase disclosures have been served to the Accused persons.


Ms. Lata was charged with one count of “Obtaining a Gain” and one count of” Falsification of Documents”.


It is alleged that in April 2017, Lata, while being employed as an Assistant Court Officer/Revenue Collector at the Rakiraki Magistrates Court falsified receipts of the Judicial Trust Fund and the Maintenance Payment Card, and as a result obtained a gain of FJD $100.00 from the Judicial Department.


Mr. Yogendran was charged with one count of “General Dishonesty – Obtaining a Gain” and one count of “Falsification of Documents”.


It is alleged that in February 2017, Yogendran while being employed as the Assistant Court Officer at the Rakiraki Magistrates Court falsified documents with the intention of dishonestly obtaining a gain in the sum FJD $50.00.


Both the Accused persons were released on Bail.


Matter has been adjourned 20 February 2018 for Mention.
