A Director and a Salesman of Tong Xin Auto Trade Company (Fiji) Limited appeared at the Nasinu Magistrates Court this morning charged with one count of bribery each by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC).

Mr. Xu Yufeng (Director) and Mr. Qian Jin Sin (Saleman) appeared before Magistrate Ms. Sufia Hamza.

It is alleged that both the Accused persons offered FJD $200.00 to two officers of the Land Transport Authority (LTA) to influence the officers in performing their duties.

The LTA officers were at the company site for a standard inspection when the alleged bribe was offered to the officers in exchange for approving license for inspection.

The LTA had referred this complaint to FICAC for investigation upon the LTA officers bringing the matter to the attention of LTA management.

FICAC Counsel, Mr. Sam Savumiramira appeared for Prosecution and informed Court that first phase disclosures have been served to the Accused persons.

The Magistrate informed both parties that the Court needs an independent Chinese interpreter on the next call date so the charges can be read and translated to the Accused persons.

Magistrate then adjourned the matter to 16 October 2017 for Mention and remanded both the Accused persons.
