Former Employee of the Office of Trademarks and Patents Convicted

A former Examiner of Trademarks and Patents at the Office of the Trademarks and Patents was found guilty for two counts of soliciting and accepting an advantage at the Suva Magistrates Court this morning.

Mr. Simione Seeto appeared before Magistrate Mr. Jioji Boseiwaqa and was represented by Mr. Bale.

<>The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) had charged Seeto in 2014.

It was proven that Seeto, whilst being employed as an Examiner of Trademarks and Patents asked and accepted an advantage in the sum of FJD $40.00 from the Complainant as lunch money.

It was also proven that Seeto on another occasion asked the Complainant for FJD $100.00.

Seeto came in contact with the Complainant when he had applied for a trademark registration at the Office of Trademarks and Patents for his business.

FICAC Counsel, Ms. Sanjana Datt appeared for Prosecution.

The matter has been adjourned to 12 July 2017 for Sentencing.
