The Suva Magistrates Court today sentenced a fifty –seven year old man to ten months imprisonment for corruption related offences.
The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) had charged Mr. Ekbal Hussein for one count of “Uttering Forged Documents”
Mr. Hussein, in 2006, forged a Certificate of Diploma and submitted to the Fiji Public Service and through the forged certificate, was employed by the Ministry of Education.
In delivering the sentence, Magistrate Ms. Waleen George stated that there was “no compelling reasons to suspend the sentence… this sentence should be a lesson for those who have the intention to defraud the state in the future”
Magistrate further stated that “ you planned your actions well and this was not detected by the Ministry until six years later”
Twenty – eight days has been given for appeal.
