Case Against the Divisional Commissioner Central

Investigation into an allegation that the Divisional Commissioner Central between 2005 and 2007 requested and accepted bribes, which included fish and bottles of alcoholic liquor from various companies in exchange for renewing their liquor licenses.

It was alleged that the Divisional Commissioner also used Government vehicles to collect food waste from three restaurants and deliver that food to his pigsty located at his personal residence. The Divisional Commissioner also allegedly instructed the Government drivers to falsify running sheets to disguise the purpose of journeys.

The public servant was charged with one count of Official Corruption, two counts of Extortion by Public Officers and two counts of Abuse of Office and appeared before the Nausori Magistrates Court on 2 October 2007.

Inoke Devo's trial was heard from 3rd March to 6th April 2010 before Justice Daniel Goundar.

On 9th April 2010, Justice Goundar convicted Devo of three counts of Abuse of Office. He was sentenced to nine months imprisonment on each count which he served concurrently.
